GBL Week 7 Power Rankings & Recap

Hours before Week 7 even started, there was plenty of rumors circulating around the league. One of the flagship GBL teams nearly disbanded and it became a Twitter circus. The Lightning's Andrew Felde could not find another teammate to participate in Week 7. After not being able to find a teammate, the Lightning disbanded for a few short hours before a trade saved their season and their future. The Lightning were able to acquire Andrew's brother, Cole Felde, from the Bird Gang but, it was too late for them in Week 7. The GBL had their third and fourth forfeits this season via the Lightning's debacle.

In other news, the 2015 GBL season has proved to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory. Only two of the league's teams are under .500 and, neither of those teams can be counted out of the playoff race just yet. The Bird Gang showed more promise after taking one game from the Stallionaires and were just one swing away from sweeping their foes. The Taka Drivers and Gashouse Gorillas had another back-and-forth nightcap that resulted in a split. The Nighttime Ninjas improved their record to 10-4 and remain in first place due to their wins via forfeit. With only three weeks left in the season, it is becoming hard to decipher which team will have the upper-hand going into the playoffs.

Week 7 Power Rankings

 6. Lightning 4-8 (#6 Last Week)

Two of the Lightning's wins and losses have come via forfeit. In games played this season the Lightning are 2-6. The only consistent threat this season has been Andrew Felde, who has the ability to play every week. Even after all hope was lost, he was named the new manager of the Lightning. If the Lightning intend on playing the rest of the games this season, they need to find players who want to be there week-to-week.
5. Bird Gang 5-9 (#5 Last Week)

After a slow start to the season, the Bird Gang have quietly found their way back into the playoff race. In their first seven games the Bird Gang were 1-6 and in the last seven games they are 4-3. Lucas Baker and Nick Trauscht were on fire this week combining for eight home runs and eleven runs batted in. With an improving Matt Zurawski, the Bird Gang have themselves in striking distance of the last playoff spot.

4. Gashouse Gorillas 7-7 (#4 Last Week)

Even with their struggles this season, the Gashouse Gorillas still find themselves with a chance to defend their titles. This is not the same team the GBL has seen in the past few seasons but, they are still as dangerous. Jeremy Ratajczyk is literally crushing wiffle-balls, while Jim Tucker is pitching lights out. The GBL still has to consider the Gashouse Gorillas a major threat.

3. Taka Drivers 7-7 (#3 Last Week)

The Taka Drivers have won a game every week this season. The trio of Buzea, Voges, and Bartley have the Taka Drivers in a good position for the team's first playoff appearance in their inaugural season. With the possibility of a return from Mark Miecznikowski, the Taka Drivers may be at full strength going into the final three weeks.

2. Stallionaires 7-5 (#2 Last Week)

The Stallionaires have the leagues best pitching but, this week their hitting was the deciding factor. After dropping the first game to the Bird Gang, Matt Kuna and Nate Bryan flipped a switch. They combined for eight home runs and thirteen runs batted in. If the Stallionaires can find some support for their pitching for the rest of the season, they may find themselves back in another World Series.

1. Nighttime Ninjas 10-4 (#1 Last Week)

Without even stepping on the Griffle Grounds this week, the Nighttime Ninjas were able to extend their hold on first place. Arvay, Krucek, and Kubacki have found a winning formula. They have a chance to be the first team to clinch a playoff spot in two weeks. If they do not clinch then, expect them to soon after.

Week 7 Recap

Lightning v. Nighttime Ninjas Game 1 & 2

Nighttime Ninjas win both games via forfeits from Lightning.

Stallionaires v. Bird Gang Game 1

GRIFFLE GROUNDS - With the Bird Gang in desperate need of a win, Nick Trauscht delivered. Trauscht smashed a walk-off  home run in the bottom of the fifth to avoid extra innings. After gaining an gaining an early 1-0 lead, the Stallionaires struck back in the top of the third with back-to-back home runs from Matt Kuna and Nate Bryan. The Bird Gang answered right back. In the first at-bat, in the bottom of the third, Lucas Baker, hit a solo home run to tie the game at 2. With Matt Kuna on the mound in relief, the Stallionaires were looking to slam the door on their opponent. The Stallionaires plan did not go quite as expected. In the first at-bat in the bottom of the fifth, Trauscht crushed a Kuna pitch into the grass in center. With momentum on their side, the Bird Gang had a chance to sweep the Stallionaires but, things don't quite always go as planned.

FINAL Bird Gang 3 Stallionaires 2

Stallionaires v. Bird Gang Game 2

GRIFFLE GROUNDS - The Stallionaires needed their offense to awake from their season long slump. Losing the first game to the Bird Gang may have shut off the snooze button. The Stallionaires belted six home runs on their way to victory and they needed every last one. After hitting a walk-off in the Game 1, Nick Trauscht began right where he left off. Trauscht hit a three run home run in the first inning to give the Bird Gang an early 3-0 lead. The Stallionaires answered back with a pair of Matt Kuna home runs in the second. After holding the Bird Gang scoreless in the second, the Stallionaires went off on starter Lucas Baker. With the bases loaded in the third, tied at 3, Kuna hit a grand slam to give the Stallionaires a 7-3 lead. The Stallionaires hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to take a controlling 9-3 lead. Bird Gang cut the lead with another home run from Nick Trauscht in the third and, two home runs from Baker in the fourth. Heading into the fifth, the Stallionaires lead dissipated to only two. In the top of the fifth, Nate Bryan capitalized on a lead off double from Kuna with a two run home run. Heading into the bottom of the fifth the Stallionaires lead 11-7. The Bird Gang had a chance to tie the game with two on but, Baker eventually flew out to end the game.

FINAL Stallionaires 11 Bird Gang 8

Gashouse Gorillas v. Taka Drivers Game 1

GRIFFLE GROUNDS - The Gashouse Gorillas received another wonderful performance from Jim Tucker improving to 7-1 on the season. He held the Taka Drivers scoreless in the three innings he pitched. After a Jeremy Ratajczyk home run in the first, Tucker helped himself by following with another home run to give the Gashouse Gorillas an early 2-0 lead. When Tucker exited the game, the Taka Drivers were able to take advantage. Chris Bartley hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth off reliever Jeremey Ratajczyk to cut the lead in half. The Taka Drivers nearly broke through against Ratajczyk. With the bases loaded in the fourth, Jackson Buzea had a chance to tie or take the lead. After a battle at the plate, Buzea eventually grounded out. In the bottom of the fourth, the Gashouse Gorillas were looking to add to their one run lead for some insurance. With one out and two on, Ratajczyk continued his hot-streak by smashing a three run home run off of Ryan Voges. The Gashouse Gorillas ended up needing that home run. The Taka Drivers scored one more in the fifth but, were not able to complete the comeback.

FINAL Gashouse Gorillas 5 Taka Drivers 2

Gashouse Gorillas v. Taka Drivers Game 2

GRIFFLE GROUNDS - The Taka Drivers have won a game every week this season and nothing was going to change. The Taka Drivers pitching held the Gashouse Gorillas scoreless through four innings but, they did not leave quietly. After a scoreless first inning between both teams, the action got started with a Jackson Buzea solo home run in the second. Both teams went scoreless again in the third and, it did not seem like anything was going to change. The Taka Drivers, leading 1-0, Buzea hit his second home run of the game to double the lead. After two home runs by Buzea, Chris Bartley added another in the top of the fifth. Heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Taka Drivers lead 3-0 and, it seemed all but over. The Gashouse Gorillas had their rally-caps on and they began to put the pressure on the Taka Drivers. After a single by Ratajczyk and a double from Jim Tucker, Zach McIntyre singled in the Gorillas first run of the game. Ratajczyk added another RBI single to cut the deficit to one. With the bases loaded, McIntyre had a chance to win the game but, Buzea was able to strike him out for the last out of the game.

FINAL Taka Drivers 3 Gashouse Gorillas 2

GBL Paw Chests NWLA Regional Recap

The GBL Paw Chests were confident heading into the NWLA regional. Commissioner Jeremy Ratajczyk had even changed the GBL bats to the official NWLA bats before the season started. He believed that it could help the hitters of the GBL. This was supposed to be the year to prove that the GBL could hang with any league in the nation. Without much practice time and a few new faces, the GBL Paw Chests did not have the showing they would have liked. The GBL had trouble all day and may have to change their approach heading into nationals.

In the very first game, the GBL were pitted against the WSEM Dads, who won the 2014 NWLA tournament. The GBL held their ground against the champs and the game was scoreless until the third inning. In the top of the third WSEM hit back to back home runs off Jeremy Ratajczyk, giving WSEM a 3-0 lead. Due to the time constraints, the game only lasted four innings and the GBL had one last inning to get something started. In the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Galiher was able to score on an error. With men on first and third with one out, the GBL had a chance to win. WSEM shut the door on the comeback and ended up winning 3-1 over the GBL.

After a competitive first game, the second game was much different. The GBL was supposed to play an exhibition against their next opponent before the 2015 season, BWACS but, the weather had other plans. The BWACS Lot Lizards may have had a bit of extra motivation coming into the game against the Paw Chests. The 2015 GBL Media Coordinator picked the Paw Chests to go 3-1 in regional play and, one of those predictions came against BWACS. In the first inning, the GBL walked in two runs and took control early but, that did not last long. BWACS scored two or more runs in the next three innings off of Galiher and Mike Kubacki. BWACS took a 9-2 lead heading into the last inning and that would be the all they needed.

After starting regionals 0-2, the GBL Paw Chests needed a victory. Next on the schedule were the ISWB Moonshots. The GBL struck first by another walked in run but, this game had plenty more to offer. The Paw Chests struck again in the second. Ryan Galiher doubled in two and Ratajczyk single in another run, giving the Paw Chests a 4-0 lead. The Moonshots of the ISWB retaliated with three of their own in the bottom of the second. With the time constraints now in effect, the game was going into the last inning. The Paw Chests scored four more in the third, three runs off a home run by Andrew Felde. They took a 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the third. ISWB cut the lead to 8-5 and then the confusion began. Sawyer Mitchell of the ISWB singled with the bases loaded. He appeared to have tied the the game but, the ball went under the fence. The umps ruled that the tying run go back to third. The GBL dodged a major collapse by getting the next batter to fly out and ended up with the first victory, 8-7.

Going into the last game, the Paw Chests wanted to end their regional by going 2-2. The only team that stood in their way were the KWL Keggers. The game started just like the game against the former champs. The game was scoreless for three innings and neither team could get anything started. That was until the KWL began to become more patient at the plate. In the top of the fourth, the KWL plated six runs, four via a gland slam, and began to rout the GBL Paw Chests. In the next inning, the KWL scored seven more and ended any chance of the GBL making a comeback. The GBL Paw Chests may have ran out of gas by this time of the day. The GBL only had two hits versus the Keggers and ended their regional at a record of 1-3.

With a guaranteed bid to the national tournament in July, the GBL did not need to succeed at regionals. They are going to have to play all-around better wiffle ball at nationals if they want a chance at the crown. At the end of the day, the GBL showed promise by sending multiple new faces to the tournament but, the GBL has higher expectations than 1-3. They want to call themselves "champions" and, they may have the talent to do so.

GBL Week 6 Power Rankings & Recap

With only four weeks left in the 2015 GBL season, the league's standings are as tight as ever. Four games separate the first place team from the last place team. Even with below .500 records, the Bird Gang and Lightning still have a realistic chance of making a push to the postseason. No spot has been guaranteed and the tension will begin to build game by game over the next few weeks. We have seen some wild games thus far this season and, Week 6 was no exception. This week produced a few comebacks, two walk-offs, and plenty of dominating performances. Week 6 has already added to a terrific season thus far and there should be more thrills in the future.

TEAM STATS
.400 BA
3.25 ERA

3. Taka Drivers 6-6 (#3 Last Week)

The Taka Drivers have split their games in every week this season. After a promising start this week, they were stonewalled in the next game. Week 5 Scores and Recap

Lightning v. Bird Gang Game 1 - Thru the first three innings, the Bird Gang shut down the Lightning. Lucas Baker pitched three innings and held the Lightning to only two hits. Then in the bottom of the third, Nick Trauscht and Matt Zurawski gave the Bird Gang a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth. Matt Zurawski entered the game in the fourth for the Bird Gang and immediately gave up a home run. Not feeling too comfortable on the mound, Nick Trauscht came in after the home run. He was able to get out of the fourth without any more damage. The real action started in the top of the fifth. With the Lightning down 3-1, and in danger of losing, Felde and Revis began the comeback. The Lightning score four runs and took the lead 5-3. With the Bird Gang rattled, the Lightning were able to complete their comeback efforts and got the win.
FINAL Lightning 5 Bird Gang 3

Lightning v. Bird Gang Game 2 - The Lightning started Game 2 the way the finished Game 1. The Lightning took a early 1-0 lead in the first inning. That 1-0 lead for the Lightning held for three innings. In the fourth, the Bird Gang struck back and tied the game 1-1 but, the fifth and final inning is where all the action took place. With the score deadlocked at 1-1, the Lightning scored four runs in the top of the fifth to give them the lead 5-1. Felde and Revis combined for three home runs during the game and two came in the fifth inning. With a comfortable lead, it was almost deja-vu for the Bird Gang but, they were not going to give up that easily. The Bird Gang were able to cut the deficit to 5-4. With Baker up and one out, Baker scorched a triple off the wall scoring two runs and gave the Bird Gang a much needed victory.
FINAL Bird Gang 6 Lightning 5

Nighttime Ninjas v. Taka Drivers Game 1 - After injuring himself at the NWLA tournament, Mike Kubacki Jr. started the first game for the Nighttime Ninjas. He may have been still affected by his predicament and, the Taka Drivers took advantage. The Taka Drivers got the game started in the first with three runs, giving them an early 3-0 lead. They started the next inning the same way by scoring another three runs. The score was 6-0 entering the third inning and it was looking bleak for the Nighttime Ninjas. The Nighttime Ninjas were able to score two in the third to cut into the Taka Drivers' lead but, the runs proved to be pointless. In the bottom of third, the Taka Drivers scored five more runs off of Kubacki, giving them a 11-2 lead. Jackson Buzea was responsible for most of the damage. He plated six RBI's and belted another home run. It only took one more batter for the Taka Drivers to score another run and, it proved to be the difference.
FINAL Taka Drivers 12 Nighttime Ninjas 2 F/3

Nighttime Ninjas v. Taka Drivers Game 2 -  After being blown-out in the first game, the Nighttime Ninjas sent Ethan Arvay to the mound in hopes of earning a split. The Taka Drivers countered with one of the leagues best rookies, Ryan Voges. In the first inning, the Nighttime Ninjas, started the scoring with an Ethan Arvay solo home run. Soon after, Sammy Krucek added another solo bomb. The score would stay exactly the same, 2-0, for most of the game. Arvay pitched lights out and his relief, Sammy Krucek, pitched just as well. Through three innings, Voges kept the game close for the Taka Drivers. After pitching a scoreless fourth, Buzea allowed two runs to score in the fifth, giving the Nighttime Ninjas a 4-0 lead. The Taka Drivers were only able to produce two hits against the duo of Arvay and Krucek and, it cost them their first sweep of the season.
FINAL Nighttime Ninjas 4 Taka Drivers 0

Gashouse Gorillas v. Stallionaires Game 1 - Back in Week 1, the Stallionaires and Gashouse Gorillas created went toe-to-toe, splinting the first nightcap of the season. In a rematch of last year's World Series, the Stallionaires wanted revenge. The action started in the bottom of the second with a David Konopasek three run home run giving the Stallionaires a 3-0 lead. The way the Stallionaires have pitched this season, the game should have been all but over. Jeremy Ratajczyk and Jim Tucker of the Gashouse Gorillas had other plans. The Gashouse Gorillas were able to score one run in each of the last three innings to tie the score at 3. With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, it was once again Jeremy Ratajczyk v. Nate Bryan. In a nine inning affair back in week 1, Nate Bryan hit a two-run bomb to give the Stallionaires the win. He repeated his Week 1 efforts against the same pitcher. Bryan smashed a walk-off home run once again and bested the same pitcher.
FINAL Stallionaires 4 Gashouse Gorillas 3

Gashouse Gorillas v. Stallionaires Game 2 - Falling below .500 for the first time this season, the Gashouse Gorillas needed a spark. The commissioner of the GBL delivered. Ratajczyk and Tucker started the game with back to back jacks, which gave the Gashouse Gorillas a much needed 2-0 lead. In the next four innings, Ratajczyk hit four more home runs and drove in eight RBI's total. On the mound, Tucker and Ratajczyk only allowed one hit. On the other hand, the Stallionaires continued to struggle in the batter's box. They were shut out for the fourth time this season. Their pitching was out of character, allowing nine runs and six home runs. The Gashouse Gorillas showed the league that when they hit for power and pitch well, they can beat anybody.
FINAL Gashouse Gorillas 9 Stallionaires 0

GBL Week 5 Recap & Power Rankings

We have now hit the mid-point of the GBL season and each game will become more crucial heading into the playoffs. While the players have been ready to hit the field each week, the weather has been uncooperative thus far. The rain, wind, and thunder all became an issue and nearly wiped out Week 5. Fortunately, the GBL was able to play four out of the six games scheduled this week. The only games that will have to be played at a later time were the games between the Lightning and Stallionaires. The 2015 season has been has been unpredictable and has made this season hard to forget. The defending champs find themselves in a tough spot and they have left the door open for a few teams to win their first championship. The Nighttime Ninjas, Stallionaires, and Taka Drivers seem ready to make the next step but, only time will tell.

Week 5 Power Rankings

6. Lightning 3-5 (#6 Last Week)

It has been a rough ride for the Lightning this season. Their only consistent threat has been Andrew Felde. On the mound this season, Felde, has a ERA of 2.22 but, his hitting and the teams has been below average. The Lightning have a team batting average of .179 with only ten RBI. If the Lightning continue this play, they will not see the playoffs. The only Lightning that have shown up this season has been produced by Mother Nature. They are 1-5 without the forfeits and need a big second half to even be considered a playoff team.

5. Bird Gang 3-7 (#5 Last Week)

Ever since forfeiting their first two games of the season, the Bird Gang have went 3-5. A major reason the Bird Gang have played better has been the emergence of rookie Lucas Baker. Baker has a .455 batting average with two home runs and twelve RBI. Without his excellent play this season, the Bird Gang, may not be where they are now. Zack Duvnjak also made his second appearance of the season. He was phenomenal on the mound in the first game and shut the door on the Taka Drivers. If they can put together a consistent one-two punch, they may work their way back into the conversation.

4. Gashouse Gorillas 5-5 (#3 Last Week)

The GBL has high standards for their three time defending champs. Every week they have a bulls-eye painted directly on their back. Teams know they have to bring their "A" game to beat the Gashouse Gorillas. So far this season, the Gashouse Gorillas are struggling to win games late. Their bullpen has been suspect, after a season which they had the reliever of the year. Jim Tucker is the only Gashouse Gorillas with an ERA under 2.00. Jeremy Ratajczyk and Ryan Galiher have ERA's over 4.00. Once their bullpen gets settled in, they might be as difficult to beat as they were last season.

3. Taka Drivers 5-5 (#4 Last Week)

Half-way through the season and the Taka Drivers are beginning to make a name for themselves. They come ready to play each week, notching a win in every series this season. Ryan Voges, Jackson Buzea, and Chris Bartley are quickly becoming a dangerous team to face each week. They have a team ERA of 3.00 and a team batting average of .365. They are on pace to go 10-10, which would be good enough for a playoff spot but, they would tell you that they could be better. For their first year in the GBL, the Taka Drivers have grown confident in their abilities, making them a formidable foe every week.

2. Stallionaires 5-3 (#1 Last Week)

The box score shows that the Stallionaire games were postponed but, you would never have known if they played or not. They have only allowed five runs all season. Reyna, Kuna, Bryan, and Konopasek have a combined ERA of 0.63. If you want to beat the Stallionaires, you have to play their type of game (low-scoring). They have struggled a bit at the plate but, do not expect them to continue their struggles. When the calendar changes and the weather begins to heat up, expect the Stallionaires to heat up as well.

1. Nighttime Ninjas 7-3 (#2 Last Week)

Without manager Mike Kubacki Jr., the Nighttime Ninjas needed big weeks from Sammy Krucek and Ethan Arvay. In a match-up for first place, the Nighttime Ninjas were unstoppable. Arvay continued his amazing season by belting six home runs and fifteen RBI. Krucek also added some power to the box score, hitting his first 2015 home run. The pitching for the Nighttime Ninjas also stifled the defending champs, only allowing five runs in two games. Through the half-way point of the season, expect the Nighttime Ninjas to be favored in every series.

Week 5 Game Recaps

Lightning v. Stallionaires Game 1 - PPD. Game to played at a later date.

Lightning v. Stallionaires Game 2 - PPD. Game to played at a later date.

Bird Gang v. Taka Drivers Game 1 - Through three innings, the Taka Drivers seemed to be in control. Jackson Buzea hit his first home run in the bottom of third inning. Bird Gang's Zack Duvnjak pitched three wonderful innings only allowing one run. He kept the them in the game until the Bird Gang offense awoke in the fourth scoring five runs off Chris Bartley. With a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Taka Drivers needed a big comeback. Their efforts pulled them within one swing of tying the game but, Lucas Baker eventually found enough in the tank to slam the door.
FINAL Bird Gang 5 Taka Drivers 2

Bird Gang v. Taka Drivers Game 2 - After dropping the first game, the Taka Drivers started the first inning off with a bang. Buzea and Voges each hit a home run and, Chris Bartley drove in three more to give the Taka Drivers a 7-0 lead. After two innings, the Taka Drivers were up 8-0. That was plenty of support for Ryan Voges who was on his way to winning his third game of the season. Baker and Duvnjak could not find the same swing they had in Game 1. The Bird Gang put together a small comeback in the fifth, down 8-0 but, it was not enough.
FINAL Bird Gang 2 Taka Drivers 8

Gashouse Gorillas v. Nighttime Ninjas Game 1 - With Jim Tucker on the mound for the Gashouse Gorillas and Mike Kubacki Jr. out, most would have given the edge to Gashouse. The Nighttime Ninjas had other plans. Ethan Arvay got the Ninjas started with his first of six home runs on the day. The Nighttime Ninjas took the lead early and never looked back. They scored five runs against each of the Gashouse pitchers. The Gashouse Gorillas also hit two home runs but, they only scored on those home runs. Down 10-1 in the fifth, the Gashouse Gorillas made things a bit uncomfortable for Sammy Krucek on the mound. Ultimately, it was not enough as the Nighttime Ninjas spanked the Gashouse Gorillas.
FINAL Gashouse Gorillas 3 Nighttime Ninjas 10

Gashouse Gorillas v. Nighttime Ninjas Game 2  - After losing the first game to the Nighttime Ninjas, Ryan Galiher got the Gashouse Gorillas on the board with a solo shot in the first. Their success was extremely short-lived as the Nighttime Ninjas scored eight runs in the next two innings. Arvay added three more home runs, while Sammy Krucek added another. Krucek also only allowed one run in three innings of work. Galiher hit another solo home run in the fourth but, it was a bit too late. The Nighttime Ninjas came to play under the lights and, the games were over so fast, Gashouse could not even guess what hit them.

GBL Week 4 Recap & Power Rankings

This week proved to be the most competitive week thus far in the GBL season. Every team split there games with one another. The Bird Gang and Lightning battled for much needed wins. While the Nighttime Ninjas and Stallionaires went toe-to-toe. There were also a total of five 2015 debuts this week as it played a major factor in many of the games. The weather also played a difference. The wind was fast and frequent, while the temperature was below 50 degrees once again. No team had the advantage over another. The bottom line is that no team has separated itself from the pack and the coming weeks shall prove to be crucial. These are your Week 4 Power Rankings and they may look familiar.

Week 4 Power Rankings

6. Lightning 3-5 (#6 Last Week)

After struggling last week against the Gashouse Gorillas, the Lightning gained much needed reinforcements for Week 4. Newcomers Garrett Litke and Derek Revis made their GBL debut. While Travis Litke made his 2015 debut. In their first game the team looked a bit rusty. The Lightning could not figure out rookie Ryan Voges, who threw a no-hitter. They made their biggest impact in Game 2 against the Taka Drivers driving in four runs to gain the Lightning much needed win. Even though they won their first official game of the season, their two wins via forfeit might be important as the weeks pass.

5. Bird Gang 2-6 (#5 Last Week)

Without manager Matt Zurawski and Cole Felde, the Bird Gang may have been in trouble if it were not for Nick Trauscht and Lucas Baker. Baker compiled eleven hits and five RBI. On the other hand, Trauscht was masterful on the mound. He only allowed five hits in five innings. They could have won both games against the three time defending champions, Gashouse Gorillas. Down five in the bottom of the fifth, Baker and Trauscht put together a rally that nearly won them Game 1. If they keep getting down early, the Bird Gang showed they have what it takes to come back. It may not be the best strategy in their push to the postseason.

4. Taka Drivers 4-4 (#4 Last Week)

The Taka Drivers have split every series with their opponent so far this season and in Week 4 nothing changed. They have yet to sweep any doubleheader but, they may be on the verge of one soon. Chris Bartley had a big day at the plate driving in ten RBI and belting two grand slams. Ryan Voges threw the Taka Drivers first solo no-hitter, a week after he pitched in a combined no-hitter. Voges has fixed his early season pitching mistakes and now finds himself as the ace of the staff. The Taka Drivers are better than their record and have put themselves in a good position going foward.

3. Gashouse Gorillas 5-3 (#3 Last Week)

The 2015 Gashouse Gorillas may have the same parts as their winning formula but, that does not mean it will translate into the same outcome. They had a tough time with the Bird Gang and nearly left without a win. 2014 Reliever of the Year, Jeremy Ratajczyk, has had trouble finding the final outs this season. He almost lost his third game but, managed to get himself out of his own jam. All of there wins have been credited to Jim Tucker, who is 5-0 on the season. If they want to be four time champions, they need to be more consistent.

2. Nighttime Ninjas 5-3 (#2 Last Week)

The Nighttime Ninjas are proving to be one of the league's better teams this season. Their match-up with the Stallionaires was another tough test. Sammy Krucek made his first appearance this season and was the deciding factor in one of the games. Mike Kubacki Jr. continued his amazing season on the mound, only allowing one run on three hits in two games. Their offense ran into the best pitching in the GBL but, they still managed to play the Stallionaires to a split. Expect to see the Nighttim Ninjas compete for a playoff spot for the rest of the season.

1. Stallionaires 5-3 (#1 Last Week)

Some may say that great pitching wins championships and that may be the case this season. The Stallionaires have only allowed five runs all season but, in every game they give up a run they lose. Despite not scoring often, the Stallionaires find themselves on top of the standings and power rankings. Without Matt Kuna and John Reyna in Week 4, the Stallionaires had to rely on Nate Bryan and David Konopasek. They both came through in a myriad of ways, as expected. Konopasek hit his first GBL home run and, Nate Bryan delivered another timely win on the mound.  Their team 0.61 ERA is easily the league's best, and they leave many teams baffled at the lawn chair.

Week 4 Game Recaps

Gashouse Gorillas v. Bird Gang Game 1 - In the first four innings, the Gashouse Gorillas, dominated the Bird Gang. Early home runs by Ryan Galiher and Jeremy Ratajczyk gave the Gashouse Gorillas an early 5-0 lead. With Jim Tucker on the mound, it would have seemed to be a easy win. Tucker only allowed three hits in his three innings pitched and, he left the Bird Gang scoreless. Ratajczyk came in for Tucker in the fourth and seemed to be on control. When the bottom of the fifth came, the Bird Gang began to make things a bit uncomfortable. Lucas Baker and Nick Trauscht put together a rally that almost gave the Bird Gang the win. After scoring three runs, the Bird Gang had the bases loaded with a chance to tie or take the lead. They needed one more hit but, Ratajczyk mustered up enough in the tank to get the final out giving the Gashouse Gorillas the win.
FINAL - Gashouse Gorillas 5 - Bird Gang 3.

Gashouse Gorillas v. Bird Gang Game 2 - With momentum on their side, the Bird Gang struck early with three runs in the first inning. Lucas Baker had himself an amazing day at the plate and continued his great day by driving in the games first three runs. After pitching a scoreless two innings in Game 1, Nick Trauscht replicated the same formula in Game 2. He pitched three innings and only allowed one run on three hits. Jim Tucker and Jeremy Ratajczyk were only a combined 1-9 at the plate and were never able to get the runners they needed on base. After taking a 4-1 lead, Baker came in to shut the door on the Gashouse Gorillas comeback chances. He allowed only two hits and gave the Bird Gang a much needed win.
FINAL - Gashouse Gorillas 1 - Bird Gang 4

Stallionaires v. Nighttime Ninjas Game 1- It was another low scoring day for the Stallionaires and their opponent. Every game the Stallionaire have been in this season has seen them shutout the opposition or, they have been shutout themselves. Sunday was no different. Mike Kubacki Jr. was again phenomenal on the mound allowing zero runs on one hit. He took a no-hit bid into the fifth before it was broken up by Nate Bryan. The debut of Sammy Krucek played a huge role in the Nighttime Ninjas winning Game 1. He drove in two RBI in the fourth inning to break the scoreless game. Even though the Stallionaires pitched well, the Nighttime Ninjas came up with the clutch hit to seal the victory.
FINAL - Stallionaires 0 - Nighttime Ninjas 2

Stallionaires v. Nighttime Ninjas Game 2- As the GBL would come to expect, the Stallionaires had another low scoring affair. The wind also seemed to play a difference in both games. Most balls hit in the air died or changed directions causing many balls to be playable. Nate Bryan struck early with an RBI in the second inning, which proved to be all they needed. He also shut the door on the Nighttime Ninjas, only allowing one hit in three innings of work. David Konopasek added some much needed insurance in the fifth, by belting his first career GBL home run. The Nighttime Ninjas could not muster any offense against Bryan and Konopasek. They only had four base-runners all game. After starting 4-0, Mike Kubacki Jr. lost his first game of the season and, his counterparts were just a bit better. The Stallionaires pitching staff has only allowed five runs all season.
FINAL - Stallionaires 3 - Nighttime Ninjas 0

Taka Drivers v. Lightning Game 1 - With much needed reinforcements, the Lightning, came with a full squad in Week 4. Rookies Garrett Litke and Derek Revis made their GBL debuts and Travis Litke made his 2015 debut. They did not help much in Game 1, The Lightning pitching staff allowed fourteen walks and ten runs in five innings. On the other hand, Ryan Voges threw his first solo no-hitter and kept the Lightning hitters at bay. Everything went the Taka Drivers way. Their were patient and timely with runners in scoring position. Most of the action was generated by Chris Bartley, who went 4-4 with six RBI and a grand slam. The Taka Drivers annihilated the Lightning in Game 1 and were hitting on all cylinders.
FINAL - Taka Drivers 10 - Lightning 0

Taka Drivers v Lightning Game 2 - After getting stomped in the first game, the Lightning, desperately needed a win. They shook off the rust in Game 1, and started to find their stroke in Game 2. They took advantage of Mark Miecznikowski on the mound for the Taka Drivers. Mez had trouble finding the strike zone in the second inning, allowing five walks and four hits in his three innings. The reinforcements for the Lightning did their job and began to play as a team. Garrett, Travis, and Revis had all five hits and, Andrew Felde pitched three scoreless innings. Their efforts gave the Lightning a 5-0 heading into the fourth inning but, it almost was not enough. The Taka Drivers clawed their way back into the game, with a grand slam by Chris Bartley in the fourth. The Lightning and pitcher Derek Revis nearly fell apart but, managed to find their way out of tough situations late in the game.
FINAL - Taka Drivers 4 - Lightning 5
